Popular Theologian N.T. Wright Hosts Seminar that included Convicted Pedophile

A recent Biblical Studies Seminar hosted by internationally renowned theologian Dr. N.T. Wright also featured convicted child porn theology Professor Robert Hayward of Durham University.

Professor Robert Hayward's lecture was titled, Praise and prayer on earth and in heaven.

The 68-year-old bachelor was arrested after police visited and raided his home in Neville's Cross, Durham, last January and discovered 165 images of underage children. Hayward was later invited back to lecture at Durham University's School of Theology.

Hayward was convicted in March 2016 and given a two-year community supervision order and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and registration as a sex offender, both for five years.

VOL wrote to Dr. Wright asking why Hayward was allowed to lecture after his conviction for possessing child pornography but got no reply.

Hayward was considered an icon of the Theology department and one of its longest-serving members of staff.

Wright is now serving in Scotland as an academic. He is the former bishop of Durham.

A theologian familiar with the story wrote VOL to say that while Bishop Bell's name can be dragged through the mud, N.T. Wright hosts a convicted sex offender for a seminar. "I think it says much about the current state of the Church of England."
